The “Leoncino d’Oro” award is sponsored by Agiscuola, coordinated by AGIS and ANEC, and the Accademia del Cinema Italiano – Premi David Donatello as part of the National Cinema and Images for Schools Plan promoted by the Ministry of Culture and the Ministry of Education.
Established in 1989, the Award has become one of the most significant collateral prizes of the Venice International Film Festival, awarded by a jury of young students representing secondary schools from across Italy, united by a great passion for cinema.
The jurors are selected each year by the local juries of the David Giovani, an initiative aimed at schools that aims to promote cinemagoing and Italian cinema among younger generations through an annual viewing program and meetings with film professionals. At the end of the program, the regional juries award the David Giovani and participate in a national competition that allows the winners, one per Region, to participate in the Festival as jurors and award the “Leoncino d’Oro” award to the film that most successfully speaks to younger generations.
The UNICEF Cinema Mention will also be awarded during the awards ceremony.
