Established by Agiscuola in 1989, the Leoncino d’Oro Award has become one of the most significant collateral awards of the Venice International Film Festival. It is presented by a jury of young students, representing all the regions of Italy and united by a strong passion for cinema. Each year, the young jurors are selected from among the David Giovani juries, an initiative dedicated to students in upper secondary schools.
Students who take part in the initiative have the opportunity to attend screenings of Italian films and vote for the best one, thereby gaining greater exposure to Italian audiovisual productions that are often overlooked in favour of foreign films. They subsequently have the opportunity to participate as jurors at the Venice International Film Festival, where they award the Leoncino d’Oro, through a selection process that recognises the jurors’ ability to analyse and assess films.
