When we talk about accessibility, we mostly think of physical disabilities, while we tend to forget how difficult it can be for people with sensory disabilities to access audiovisual contents. However, in Italy, about 1,5 million people are visually impaired, and 220,000 are completely blind; additionally, around 7 million people have hearing disabilities.
In 2023, Artis-Project, in collaboration with MovieReading and CulturAbile, launched Audecon, an observatory on inclusion and audiovisual accessibility for blind and deaf people. It is an open and impartial aggregator that intends to overcome sensory barriers in the film and television industry. Its mission is to raise awareness and promote a real change for the inclusion of people with sensory disabilities. Because deafness and blindness should never mean exclusion from social and cultural life.
