It is an award conceived and created and born by a group of women, all journalists, who already worked together in the past. It is an initiative created in order to pay homage to women’s talent in the world of national and international cinema: actresses, female directors, authors, screenwriters, producers and industry professionals. Despite its being women centered, WiCA aims to also celebrate those directors who showed a detailed attention to women, made them the focus of their stories or enhanced them with key roles in the development and production of their films.
The prizewinners are chosen amongst leading figures in the art of cinema and other similar arts, as witnesses capable of representing different cultures and different ways of bringing to life stories and characters. Special attention goes to personalities engaged in socially committed activities.
The awardees of this edition are:
Patty Pravo, singer; Agnieszka Holland, Polish director and screenwriter; Andrew Haigh, British director, screenwriter, and producer; Laura Delli Colli, journalist and writer, President of the Sindacato Nazionale Giornalisti Cinematografici Italiani (SNGCI).
