The “La Pellicola d’Oro” award has been promoted and organized since 2011 by the Cultural Association S.A.S. The film recognition is awarded annually to Italian artisans, technicians and professionals active in the world of cinema with reference to the following professional activities: Production Manager, Camera Operator, Special Effects, Stage Dressmaker, Film Tailors, Machinists Chiefs, Electricians Chiefs, Storyboard Artist, Masters of Arms, Stage Toolmakers, Sound Effects Creator and Chief Builder. These are the categories of highly specialized trades and craftsmen that contribute irreplacably to the making of a film. A real backbone of a movie set. Conceived and wanted as a recognition and homage of the artistic professionalism that characterize every film production, the prize is awarded through the vote of a jury of professionals who select sixty-five finalists (5 for each category) and, among these, following a second vote, defines the winner.
The award explicitly aims to bring to the fore those “professions” whose role is fundamental in the making of a film and which is rarely recognized and valued. Among the well-known names, who in recent years have received such awards for their artistic activities, we remember: Manolo Bolognini, Giancarlo Giannini; Ugo Gregoretti; Ettore Scola, Marco Giallini, Greta Scarano, Maria Pia Calzone, Terence Hill, Leo Gullotta, Valerio Mastandrea, Micaela Ramazzotti, Ennio Fantastichini, Stefano Accorsi, Giuliano Montaldo, Barbara Bouchet, Marina Tagliaferri, Giovanna Ralli, Claudio Amendola, Matilde Gioli, etc.
Since 2017, we have been honored to present “La Pellicola d’Oro” for the first time as a collateral prize at the 74th Venice Biennale International Film Festival. An important milestone that gives us the opportunity to disseminate the behind-the-scenes work of cinema internationally, thanking the collaboration of Cinecittà Luce and Anica.
We are the first prize in Europe to recognize the professions and crafts of cinema, with the aim of promoting the professions and crafts of cinema as our Made in Italy.
