TIRANA

The Italian Cultural Institute, in collaboration with Cinecittà for the Directorate General for Cinema and Audiovisual of the Italian Ministry of Culture, the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, the Accademia del Cinema Italiano – David di Donatello Awards, together with the Embassy of Italy in Albania, are pleased to announce the second edition of ITALIAN SCREENS.

From 15 to 19 April, the new Italian cinema arrives in Tirana with a series of films selected among the candidates for the David di Donatello, the prestigious award given out each year by the Accademia del Cinema Italiano to the best Italian films.

Different films in terms of genre and setting have been chosen for Tirana’s festival: RiccardoMilani’s GRAZIE RAGAZZI, which received 2 nominations and won a Silver Ribbon; Lyda Patitucci’s debut film COME PECORE IN MEZZO AI LUPI; Marco Bellocchio’s RAPITO, which received 9 nominations and won 6 Silver Ribbons; Giacomo Abbruzzese’s DISCO BOY, a film nominated for a Silver Ribbon and awarded at the Berlin Film Festival, as well as a César Award nominee and winner of a Lumières Award; and Yuri Ancarani’s ATLANTIDE, nominated for the David di Donatello.

The films will be screened at the Cinema Millennium in Tirana (Rruga Murat Toptani), in Italian with English subtitles.

The event will also feature two short films: the multi-award-winning GAGARIN, MI MANCHERAI by Domenico De Orsi and BUBBLES, an Italian-produced film by Albanian director Meri Dishnica.

The Italian Screens festival will be followed, on 20 and 21 April, by an initiative promoted by the Balkan Film Festival of Rome, which, in collaboration with the Italian Cultural Institute, will present the 7th edition of the festival in Tirana. The event, Da Roma a Tirana (From Rome to Tirana), proposes a reverse journey: to bring back to the Balkans some of the most successful works of the Roman editions of the Balkan Film Festival, offering a selection of fiction and documentary films from past editions to the public of the Albanian capital.
