Italian Screens returns to the Shanghai International Film Festival for the second consecutive year, confirming its commitment to the international promotion of contemporary Italian cinema. From June 12 to 21, the project will be featured at SIFF, one of the world’s most prestigious film events and China’s only competitive festival accredited by FIAPF as a “Class A” event — a recognition that places it alongside the most important international film festivals. Founded in 1993, the festival transforms Shanghai every year into a premier meeting point for filmmakers, industry professionals, and audiences from around the world, with a special focus on dialogue between Asian cinema and international productions.
The Italian Screens section will feature nine works that showcase the richness, vitality, and plurality of contemporary Italian cinema: Keep me in Mind by Alberto Palmiero, Classmates by Umberto Carteni, The Holy Boy by Paolo Strippoli, Sweetheart by Margherita Spampinato, Primavera by Damiano Michieletto, Anna Magnani – The Untold Story by Monica Guerritore, One Year of School by Laura Samani, Three Goodbyes by Isabel Coixet, and Grace by Paolo Sorrentino. Nine different stories in terms of themes, language, and sensibility, united by their ability to represent the creative dynamism of today’s Italian film production.
Italian Screens’ journey in China will continue on June 15 in Beijing with the industry session Italy Offers Everything You Need hosted at the Italian Cultural Institute of the Italian Embassy. The meeting will be dedicated to presenting the tools that the Italian System offers to the film and audiovisual sector: tax incentives and grants, promotion and internationalization activities, investment attraction measures, and the services offered by Cinecittà to support national and international productions. An event to showcase Italy’s excellence and strengthen dialogue with the global audiovisual industry, fostering new opportunities for encounters, exchange, and dialogue among cultures, industries, and audiences.
