Italy is strengthening its presence at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF), taking place from September 10 to 20, in a particularly significant edition that will see the debut of TIFF: The Market, the new space dedicated to the audiovisual industry.
At the heart of Italy’s presence will be the Italian Pavilion, coordinated by Cinecittà on behalf of the Directorate General for Cinema and Audiovisual of the Italian Ministry of Culture and by the Italian Trade Agency (ITA). The Pavilion will serve as a meeting point for business, networking, co-production and the promotion of Italian cinema, with the aim of fostering new relationships and opportunities between the Italian and Canadian industries and the broader North American market.
Italy’s participation in the first TIFF Market will bring together producers, international sales companies, B2B meetings and networking activities. From September 10 to 16, Booth D22 will host seven international sales companies: Fandango Sales, Intramovies, Minerva Pictures, PiperPlay, Rai Cinema International Distribution, True Colours, Vision Distribution.
The Market will also welcome six Italian production companies selected by Telefilm Canada: Indiana, K+, Minerva Pictures, Tempesta, Salice Production, Tramp Limited. A tailored programme of B2B meetings has been arranged for them with Canadian and U.S. producers, broadcasters, distributors and decision-makers, with the aim of developing new opportunities for co-production, financing, development and international distribution.

One of the key events of Italy’s presence will take place on September 11, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at TIFF Bell Lightbox – Founders Lounge. Spotlight: Italy Offers Everything You Need will showcase Italy as a strategic partner for North American and international productions.
The event will provide an overview of the opportunities offered by Italy’s audiovisual ecosystem to international productions, ranging from tax incentives, funding and financing tools to co-production opportunities, Film Commissions, infrastructure and Italy’s extraordinary filming locations.
The event will be moderated by Carlo Angelo Bocchi, Director of the Italian Trade Agency Offices in Canada. Speakers will include H.E. Alessandro Cattaneo, Ambassador of Italy to Canada; Roberto Stabile, Director of the International Department at Cinecittà; Cristina Giubbetti, Vice President of APE – Association of Executive Producers; Guido Cassano, Film Commissioner of Friuli Venezia Giulia Film Commission; Luca Ferrario, Director of Trentino Film Commission.
Alongside this strong industry presence, a significant selection of Italian films and international co-productions with Italian participation will be presented across the Festival’s various sections. Italian titles include It Will Happen Tonight by Nanni Moretti, in Special Presentations; IDDA by Irene Dionisio, selected for Platform; The City of the Living by Edoardo Gabbriellini, in Centrepiece; A Common Story by Anna Foglietta, in Discovery; and The Spiral by Paolo Strippoli, presented in Midnight Madness.
These titles are joined by a selection of numerous international co-productions involving Italian partners, further highlighting the increasingly international outlook of Italy’s audiovisual industry.
