Now in its 74th edition, the Berlinale is one of the most prestigious international festivals for industry professionals and journalists, with over 700 films screened, 1,500 distributors and 400 exhibitors. It is the first annual event where stars, directors and producers meet after the winter break. This year, opening the festival will be the star of the moment, Cillian Murphy, former protagonist of Oppenheimer, with “Small Things like these”.
eing a platform for the film industry, the Berlinale is also an important catalyst for innovation and plays a key role in the sector’s economy on an international and local level, providing several activities and services for the promotion of new talent, networking, project development and dialogue with the mainstream audience.

Over the past ten years, Italy has been honoured with several extraordinary awards, Golden and Silver Bears in all categories: film, direction, screenplay, performance. It can consequently be argued that international attention towards Italy will be high. Acknowledging this interest, the festival, has included in this 2024 edition no less than six titles crossing different genres: two of them are the films in competition, “Another End” by Pietro Messina, starring Berenice Bejo, and “Gloria!” by Margherita Vicario, a well-known Italian pop star who turned director. Special screenings include two world premiere TV series: “Dostoevsky” by the D’Innocenzo brothers, announced on Sky, and “Supersex”, the Netflix series with actor Alessandro Borghi, who plays the porn star Rocco Siffredi. But there is also space for more arthouse titles such as Costanza Quadriglio’s “Il cassetto segreto” and “Quell’estate con Irene” by director Carlo Sironi, whose previous film, “Sole”, racked up awards worldwide.
t the upcoming Berlin Film Festival, the Italian presence will offer a comprehensive insight into our country’s film and audiovisual sector, guiding the public, press and operators on a journey through a wide variety of forms and styles.
